Job Title: Senior Control Systems Engineer

Reports To: Branch Manager

Job Summary

Control Systems Engineers analyze user requirements and the design of process and/or mechanical equipment to design automation systems that control the process or machine in the desired manner.  The engineer uses knowledge and experience in instrumentation, control valves, Motors/VFDs, control system electrical design, and PLC/DCS programming to deliver an automation system that meets the user’s needs utilizing the minimum essential design.  Control systems engineers display high integrity, a willingness to go beyond the ordinary to meet and exceed client expectations, a desire for continual challenge and development, and excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Job Qualifications

Responsibilities for this job may include but are not limited to:

·        Interface with customers to develop User Requirements documentation.

·        Develop control specification (control narratives) documentation based on User Requirements.

·        Perform initial feasibility studies for proposed projects, resulting in a feasibility-level cost estimate and supporting documentation for the project.

·        Mark-up Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) for instrumentation and controls related changes and review drawings from the drafting team.

·        Design low-voltage (up to 480V) electrical controls drawings, panel drawings, loop sheets, I/O drawings, and network drawings and review drawings from the drafting team.

·        Develop programs for Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and/or oversee the program development done by others.

·        Develop Human/Machine Interface (HMI) packages to work with the PLC/DCS.

·        Develop testing plans for DCS and PLC programs to effectively test all aspects of a new program or program changes.

·        Simulate the DCS/PLC program and test the system using the testing plan.

·        Oversee electrical controls construction at the client’s site and verify that the system is being installed as designed.  Provide technical support to the construction effort.

·        Perform I/O checkout on the installed control system and document the checkout results.

·        Provide post-commissioning support to the client’s operations, engineering, and maintenance personnel.

·        Travel to the client’s site as required.

Required Job Qualifications:

·        10 years of experience in a similar engineering role

Preferred Job Qualifications:

·        Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Chemical, Mechanical, or other relevant Engineering field

·        At least 5 years experience with one of more of the following platforms:

o   Allen Bradley PLC5, SLC500, MicroLogix, ControlLogix

o   Siemens S7, PCS7

o   Emerson DeltaV, Ovation

o   Novatech D/3

o   Honeywell Experion

o   Foxboro I/A

·        HMI configuration experience with one or more of the following platforms:

o   Wonderware (ArchestrA based experience preferred)

o   iFix

o   Allen Bradley Panelbuilder or others

o   Iconics

·        Experience in the selection, specification, and installation design of instrumentation, control valves, motors, and VFDs

·        Experience in electrical design of Electrical Panels, I/O systems, Motor/VFD Controls, and Ethernet-based networks.

·        Field experience troubleshooting electrical controls problems in an industrial environment.

·        Industry experience in Food and Beverage, Chemical, Refining, Pulp and Paper, Oil/Gas Pipeline, Power Generation, Material Handling, or Packaging.


Job Title: Chemical Engineer

Reports To: Branch Manager

Job Summary

Chemical Engineers work with clients to produce detailed process designs and simulations for new equipment, or to modify existing process designs to correct deficiencies.   This work involves the entire project life cycle, including creating job proposals for clients, performing the detailed process design, simulating the process, providing support during project start-up, and validating process performance after start-up.

Job Qualifications

Responsibilities for this job may include but are not limited to:

·        Interface with customers to develop User Requirements documentation.

·        Perform initial feasibility studies for proposed projects, resulting in a feasibility-level cost estimate and supporting documentation for the project.

·        Analyze process data from existing plants to locate process bottlenecks, potential energy savings, root causes for off-spec products, or other process-related issues.

·        Develop and review Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID).

·        Perform mass and energy balance calculations.

·        Work with Control Systems Engineers to insure that instrumentation and final control elements are designed into the process for optimal process control.

·        Develop process simulations for new and existing processes to validate designs.

·        Communicate process design to Mechanical Engineers and Designers and verify that the piping and mechanical design is appropriate to meet the requirements of the process.

·        Provide construction and start-up assistance to guarantee that the process is being constructed per design and provide technical support for issues that arise during construction and start-up.

·        Validate process performance after start-up using Key Performance Indicators (KPI) or other methods determined by the User Requirements.

 Required Job Qualifications:

·        Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering

·        Minimum of 5 years experience in a related process engineering role.

Preferred Job Qualifications:

·        Project Management experience including contractor oversight.

·        Experience designing various unit operations such as chemical reactors, distillation columns, heat exchangers, vessels, etc.

·        Experience with process design and simulation software.

·        Experience working with a multi-disciplinary team of Engineers.


Job Title: MES Solutions Developer

Reports To: Branch Manager

Job Summary

Manufacturing Execution System (MES) Solutions Developers communicate with clients’ management and production personnel to understand user requirements and specifics about existing MES and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems and use this knowledge to design and implement a complete MES Solution.  MES Solutions cover product tracking, resource allocation, performance analysis, process management, data collection, quality management, labor management, and dispatching. 

Job Qualifications

Responsibilities for this job may include but are not limited to:

·        Analyze clients’ MES requirements to design the best fit system or modify an existing system.

·        Develop functional specification documents.

·        Program in visual basic, C#, C++, ASP, .NET framework, SQL, etc.

·        Program in a system platform such as ArchestrA, Proficy,  Factory Talk, PI

·        Implement OPC server-client configurations to establish communication between the control system and MES layer.

·        Implement other protocols and/or mediums to provide communication to PLC and ERP systems.

·        Simulate and Test the MES solution.

·        Implement and commission the MES solution at the client site

Required Job Qualifications

·        BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Information Systems

·        Minimum of 1 year of MES development experience

·        Exceptional analytical and problem solving skills

·        Excellent customer service skills

·        Ability to work with interdisciplinary teams

·        Strong ability to learn the manufacturing process

·        Programming/Development skills in the following: any programming language in the .Net framework (VB .NET, C sharp, C++, etc.)

·        Database experience with SQL server or equivalent

Preferred Job Qualifications

·        Understanding of production, engineering, and production processes in an industrial environment.

·        Ability to understand key business metrics and KPI’s from client interaction

·        Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non technical audiences such as: operations, IT, and engineering personnel

·        Aptitude and/or proven experience in other graphical programming environments

·        Knowledge of Wonderware’s System Platform (ArchestrA), Rockwell Automation’s Factory Talk suite of products, GE Proficy, OSI PI, or similar platforms

·        Understanding of automation systems including PLC and/or DCS platforms

·        Experience in integrating ERP systems to MES systems

·        Experience with server environments and industrial networking


Job Title: Project Manager

Reports To: Branch Manager

Job Summary

Project Managers ensure the success of active projects by applying sound fundamentals of project management, accounting, business development, communication, and teamwork.  Project Managers develop project schedules and staffing plans, track project hours and expenses, manage the project budget, manage day to day aspects of project scope, review project deliverables before passing them on to the client, and apply LSI’s project methodology and standards.

Job Qualifications

Responsibilities for this job may include but are not limited to:

  • Create and execute project work plans and schedules and revise as appropriate to meet changing requirements
  • Identify resources needed and assign individual responsibilities
  • Manage day to day operational aspects of a project scope
  • Review deliverables prepared by the project team before passing on to the client
  • Effectively apply LSI’s methodology and enforce project standards
  • Prepare for engagement reviews and quality assurance procedures
  • Minimize LSI’s exposure and risk on a project
  • Ensure project documents are complete, current, and stored appropriately
  • Manage more than one project at a time; see to it that all projects being managed are progressing smoothly on schedule and budget
  • Manage project budget, Track and report team hours and expenses as needed
  • Determine appropriate revenue recognition, ensure timely and accurate invoicing, and monitor receivables for the project

Required Job Qualifications

  • BS Degree in Engineering
  • 5 years of project management experience in an engineering field

Preferred Job Qualifications

  • Ability to accurately forecast revenue, profitability, revenue, margins, bill rates, and utilization
  • Experience with project legal documents

Job Title: Mechanical Designer

Reports To: Branch Manager or Mechanical Lead

Job Summary

Mechanical designer utilizes process knowledge and design skills to develop piping drawings, site layout, installation details, P&ID’s and other design or CAD drawings to support projects in a number of industries.  The designer must have good interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team environment with LSI and client resources.  The mechanical designer must be self directed to complete projects with minimal supervision, and must have excellent written skills to develop scope documents or other documentation to support project design drawings.

Job Qualifications

Responsibilities for this job may include but are not limited to:

  • Discuss details with engineering resources, client project resources, and equipment technical resources to develop project requirements
  • Field verify piping drawings, P&ID’s, or other equipment drawings and mark-up to represent as-built conditions
  • Develop site plan drawings or layout drawings for equipment and piping installations
  • Develop piping plans or isometric drawings as required to detail installations
  • Generate and revise piping and instrumentation diagrams
  • Generate foundation drawings
  • Check other resource’s  design drawings and supplier equipment drawings
  • Provide on-site construction support as required to ensure proper installation of equipment or piping
  • Travel to client’s site as required

Required Job Qualifications

·        Proficient in AutoCAD

·        Familiar with industrial piping, installation methods, piping supports, foundation design

·        Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and access industrial equipment for field verification

·        Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word

Preferred Job Qualifications

·        Bentley MicroStation

·        Experience in machine design concepts

·        Ability to size pumps, specify valves, and determine pressure drop for piping systems
