Employee Spotlight Joe GiammariaMeet Joe Giammaria, a Senior Controls Engineer based in our Golden, CO, office. With over a decade at LSI, Joe has made a meaningful impact across a wide range of client projects, most notably with our long-standing energy utility clients. His engineering expertise, leadership, and problem-solving mindset make him a standout member of our team, and we’re honored to spotlight him this month.

How long have you been with LSI?

11 years.

Describe your current role and experience at LSI.

I am a Senior Controls Engineer primarily working on architecting and implementing PLC, HMI, Historian and RTU standards for an energy utility client.

Where did you go to college?

I graduated from Colorado School of Mines with a BS in Engineering with an Electrical Specialty

What industries have you been involved in?

I’ve been lucky enough to be involved in projects in a multitude of industries, including oil and gas, food and beverage, mining, water/wastewater, dairy, and manufacturing.

Tell us about a project success story that you are proud of.

I’m not sure there’s one I can pick, but I’m most proud of the projects that involve challenges outside of our control that we overcome.  Sometimes that has included jumping into complete programs outside of the initial scope or completely swapping platforms because of availability. A good example is this Natural Gas Compressor Station Controls Upgrade project we did recently.

What do you think is unique about LSI?

The relationships we build really do go beyond the surface level.  Whether it’s ensuring our clients have the solutions they need or ensuring our coworkers receive the support they need, it truly is centered on relationships.

How have you grown professionally since joining LSI?

LSI has enabled and encouraged me to expand my skills and knowledge.  I’ve been very fortunate to see a wide variety of systems and processes, and new challenges are always available.  I’ve been able to gain experience with numerous platforms and solutions.

What advice do you have for aspiring engineers?

Always be learning.  Even when a project seems to be routine or repetitive, there is usually a person, scenario, or situation from which you can learn something new.  Being able to draw from these experiences can be invaluable going forward in your career.

What is your favorite vacation spot?

I don’t have a favorite spot, but I enjoy anywhere I can spend some time adventuring. Living in Colorado offers many opportunities for that.

Do you have any hobbies or random facts about yourself that you could share with us?

I really enjoy trail running in my free time.  I recently completed my first 50k and maintain a lengthy list of other races and runs I’d like to complete.
