When you talk with Jay Alcock, it doesn’t take long to realize he’s someone who is driven by curiosity, innovation, and an unwavering desire to understand how things work. From taking apart toys as a child in Australia to helping clients harness the power of machine learning and advanced analytics today, his career has been built on solving complex problems and pushing technology forward.

Jay joined LSI in late 2025 as part of the digital transformation team, bringing with him a diverse background that spans automation, manufacturing, capital project execution, and even humanoid robotics. His educational journey reflects that versatility. He holds a bachelor’s degree in robotics and mechatronics engineering from Swinburne University of Technology and a master’s degree in transdisciplinary engineering from University of Southern Queensland, intentionally developing a broad skill set that allows him to bridge multiple disciplines.

Before beginning his engineering career, Jay served for six years in the Australian Army as an aircraft maintenance engineer. Afterward, he worked as a controls and automation engineer in Australia before what was supposed to be a temporary trip to Canada permanently changed his path.

As Jay puts it, “I came to Canada for a ski trip, and 14 years later, I’m still on my ski trip.”

Over the years, his career has included engineering and leadership roles with major organizations across brewing, grain handling, and advanced robotics. One of the highlights was spending four years in the humanoid robotics industry, fulfilling a lifelong dream of working with cutting-edge technology.

Jay’s path to LSI came through long-time professional relationships. Years ago, while working as a client, he met Arthur Laszczewski and quickly recognized his talent. The two stayed connected throughout their careers, and when the opportunity arose to help build LSI’s artificial intelligence and data analytics capabilities, the timing was right.

What excites Jay most today is the transformation occurring across manufacturing and industrial operations. He believes advancements in AI, machine learning, and data analytics are creating opportunities that simply didn’t exist even a few years ago.

“What we’re able to do with data now has really opened a whole lot of doors and opportunities. People are much more open-minded to higher technology solutions, and they’re ready to adopt them.”

One project that currently has his attention involves developing what he describes as one of the most advanced mining ventilation solutions in the world. While the project is still underway, Jay is energized by both the technical challenge and the value it can deliver for the client.

Outside of work, Jay brings the same intensity and passion to his personal pursuits. A lifelong athlete, he has represented both Australia and Canada in competition and has competed nationally in sports including beach volleyball and triathlon. Today, you’ll often find him cycling, training, or preparing for his next ambitious challenge.

One of those goals is the renowned Tour Divide, an ultra-endurance bikepacking race stretching from Banff, Alberta, to the U.S.-Mexico border. For Jay, it’s simply the next adventure on a long list of personal and professional challenges.

Many colleagues may be surprised to learn that music is actually his greatest passion outside of engineering. Jay enjoys producing electronic music and finds inspiration in the creativity and problem-solving that both engineering and music share.

Looking ahead, Jay’s goals are centered on making a lasting impact, both for clients and for LSI.

Through his unique blend of engineering expertise, innovative thinking, and relentless curiosity, he is helping shape the future of digital transformation at LSI.

Thank you, Jay, for the expertise, energy, and forward-thinking mindset you bring to our team every day.
