Meet Wes, a Senior Controls Engineer based out of our Golden, CO, office. Wes brings a wealth of experience in both power and controls engineering. Since joining LSI, he has become a Brewmaxx software SME (subject-matter expert) and has led multiple successful malting projects over the past 3 years. A key characteristic that the client values is his willingness to take ownership of the client’s problems or issues and see them through to a successful conclusion that satisfies the client. We’re excited to feature him in this month’s Employee Spotlight!

Tell us about a project success story that you are proud of.
I was part of a great team that delivered a major automation upgrade of an existing malting facility at one of the largest single-site breweries in the world. This project involved hardware panel designs, network architecture, upgrading PLC5 to ControlLogix, and HMI graphic design. This project helped me develop my automation skill set while at the same time utilizing my existing electrical engineering skills. Read more about this project here.
What do you think is unique about LSI?
The skill sets of the engineers and designers, combined with our diverse project history, allow LSI to create solutions for a wide range of projects that our clients need help with.
How have you grown professionally since joining LSI?
I have grown my automation programming skills. When I first started at LSI, I had mostly done power engineering work and was new to automation and controls. There are so many great people here who are willing to help develop newcomers.
What advice do you have for aspiring engineers?
My advice is to find at least one mentor. Having a mentor can help you get started in the professional landscape by sharing their experience and can also provide valuable career advice.
What is your favorite vacation spot?
Going to Disney World with my wife and daughters was a very special experience. My whole family was amazed by the many things to do and the great experience.
I also really enjoyed going to Alaska for my 40th birthday. The landscape there is so amazing, and I had a great time catching a lot of fish.
Do you have any hobbies or random facts about yourself that you could share with us?
I have been in an amateur curling league for the last 10 years. I really enjoy the strategy and skill of curling.
Also, I started fly fishing a couple of years ago and enjoy being outdoors and seeing amazing landscapes as I visit different fishing spots.
